Johnny Joestar (ジョ二ィ・ジョースター, Joni Jōsutā) is one of the two main protagonists of Part VII: Steel Ball Run, along with Gyro Zeppeli. A paraplegic jockey, he competes in the Steel Ball Run race.

Johnny starts out as a supporting character to Gyro. When Steel Ball Run was officially announced as Part VII in Volume 5 (incidentally also the turning point for the entire series, as it switched from Weekly Shonen Jump to the seinen magazine Ultra Jump), Johnny gradually came to stand as the main protagonist alongside Gyro.

Johnny represents the alternate universe counterpart to Jonathan Joestar, protagonist of Part I: Phantom Blood.

AppearanceEdit

In the beginning, Johnny appeared as a slim, medium-sized, blonde blue-eyed teenager with shoulder length hair that curved outwards at the tips. Before the beginning of the race, he is seen riding in a wheelchair, but otherwise is on a horse most of the time. After the series switches to a monthly schedule, Johnny's image changes to a much more realistic appearance with straitened but wavy hair, and a slightly more muscular and detailed body tone.

Johnny's most distinct feature is his Knit cap. According to flashbacks, Johnny has worn one since childhood, and has continued to wear one throughout his life. The most unique trait of each hat are two holes cut out on the top of each side of the hat. Johnny's hair sticks out of these holes, giving a slight resemblance to horns. After becoming a Horse Jockey, Johnny dons a star patterned cap with a horseshoe emblem on the front. Coupled with this cap, Johnny wears a matching pair of star patterned pants connected to shoes with spurs. Johnny's torso attire consists of a hooded short sleeve with an under shirt and a feather sticking out the backside of the collar. On each wrist he wears a wrist cuff, usually the same color as the cap and pants.

During the winter, Johnny changes his shirt to a long sleeve with the same design, but with the star patterned shoulder pads. The collar area is also outlined with a fur material and there are several feathers sticking out the back.
