Johnny Joestar (ジョ二ィ・ジョースター Joni Jōsutā?), along with Gyro Zeppeli, is the protagonist of Part VII: Steel Ball Run.

A paraplegic ex-jockey, drawn by Gyro's mystical abilities, Johnny develops an aim to redeem himself with a victory in the Steel Ball Run race.

Johnny starts out as a supporting character to Gyro. When Steel Ball Run was announced as Part VII in Volume 5 (a turning point for the whole series, switching from Weekly Shonen Jump to seinen magazine Ultra Jump) Johnny gradually comes to stand as the main protagonist alongside Gyro.

Johnny is the counterpart of Jonathan Joestar, protagonist of Part I.

AppearanceEdit

At first, Johnny was a slim blonde blue-eyed teenager with shoulder length hair that curved outwards at the tips. Before the beginning of the race, he is seen in a wheelchair, but otherwise is on a horse most of the time. After the series switches to a monthly schedule, Johnny's image changes to a more realistic appearance with straightened but wavy hair, and a slightly more muscular and detailed body tone.

Johnny's most distinctive feature is his knit cap, which he has worn since childhood. Each hat has two holes cut out on the top of each side. Johnny's hair sticks out of these holes, resembling horns. After becoming a Horse Jockey, Johnny dons a star-patterned cap with a horseshoe emblem on the front. He also wears a matching pair of star-patterned pants connected to shoes with spurs, a hooded short sleeve with an under shirt and a feather sticking out of the back of the collar, and wrist cuffs.

During the winter, Johnny changes his shirt to a long sleeve with the same design, but with the star-patterned shoulder pads. The collar area is outlined with fur and there are several feathers sticking out of the back.
